The Virginia Municipal League (VML) has awarded Roanoke County with a 2017 Innovation Award in the Economic Development Category for the Explore Park Adventure Plan. A panel of judges felt the plan represented the best in the category by addressing challenges, using local resources efficiently and achieving measurable results. The award was accepted by department director Doug Blount at the VML annual conference in Williamsburg on Monday, October 2.
The Explore Park Adventure Plan outlines a 20-year vision for developing adventure recreation amenities at the park through public-private partnerships. It was a result of a year long effort including an extensive public input phase and unique business plan component. This plan has already been instrumental in helping attract new businesses to build at the park.
